Started in 2001, the .NAME universal TLD is the sole TLD supposed to be for personal sites only. These domains can consist of personal or fictional names, nicknames and/or other labels people are popular by. In 2004, however, the registration procedures were loosened and 2nd-level registrations were also allowed. Already acquired 3rd-level domains remained functional.
